The Thing About Runner's...A Perspective

There has been a lot of media attention these days about running, runners, and the subculture as a whole. It appears many do not understand. Articles boasting that 'fit' is the new rich, and runners are, as a whole, narcissistic. Runners run for the attention. Runners are quick to pat themselves on the back. An opinion, which anyone on the outside is free to express...but, maybe it's time for them to try to come to the inside...

As an athlete, I have always run. This was the year I took a leap and started to doing races. The running community is a beautiful place. A place where ego is not on the forefront. Runners run for so many reasons. They run for fitness, they run for weight loss, they run for family members which have passed, they run for their children. Runners run for mental health, they run to overcome demons, they run for charity, they run for passion, they run to commit. The majority of runners aren't out there to be better than anyone else, they are out their to be there best selves. In fact, most aren't out there to win the race, they are looking only to finish and win for themselves. And, on occasion, they are there to out run zombies ;-)

To all of those who judge from outside, based on stickers displaying miles, and photos of our accomplishments...please come join us. We promise we'll let you in. Once you cross that finish line, I am certain you will proudly wear your race shirt. Post your photos to the world. And some day, proudly display your 26.2 sticker.

Home Owner Day 2

Funny that I should decide to finally get a blog about my crazy skating adventures going, at a time where I am not actually working?! But, I guess becoming a home owner is a crazy adventure in its own right. The emotional roller coasters. The nerves. The joy. The stress. The stress. The stress.

Now I am two days into the "elite" society. Walls have been painted. Shower curtains hung. Still have not spent one night there...and still have no furniture... But, it does feel nice just knowing it is there...
